Meet Our Chapel Hill Dentistry Team

Dr. Jessica Bishop Funk

Dr. Bishop graduated from Grove City College in Pennsylvania with a B.S in Molecular Biology with the distinction of Magna Cum Laude. She then attained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 2000.

Dentistry has been a major part of Jessica’s life. She started out as a helper in her father’s dental practice at the young age of three and by the age of ten, she was pouring molds and assisting her father with patients. She opened her practice in Chapel Hill in 2001. Her newest passion in patient care is helping patients with sleep disordered breathing, working alongside a patient’s physician to help draw attention to this major health risk. Dr. Bishop also strives to have a holistic approach to your dental care and recently became a member of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology.

Dr. Bishop enjoys spending time with her husband Ron Funk and their five children, Walker, Cole, Zoe, Madilyn, Matthew and her beloved dog, Shirley (read about her below!). When not creating beautiful smiles, she loves to run, swim, golf, hike, sew, knit and work at job sites with her husband.

Dr. James Campbell

Though his life and career have taken him around the globe, Dr. Campbell was born in North Carolina and continues to call it home. While studying at Brigham Young University, he met his wife, Meredith (a Raleigh native), on a blind date that went so well, they stopped dating other people forever.

After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Campbell was commissioned as a Dental Officer in the U.S. Navy. His service took him from California to Japan to the North Carolina coast—including an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency in San Diego, two deployments at sea aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, and working with the Marines at Cherry Point. Since then, he’s been putting down roots and treating patients in the Raleigh area.

Dr. Campbell has a particular interest in dental implants and has placed and restored hundreds. He enjoys helping patients feel confident about their smiles—and maybe even enjoy a trip to the dentist a little more than they expected.

Outside the office, he and Meredith stay busy with their five children: Luke, Tag, Wesley, Emmett, and Afton. Their two oldest sons are preparing for missionary service—Luke in Santa Maria, Brazil, and Tag in Bristol, England.

Dr. Campbell is genuinely looking forward to meeting you and your family in the months ahead.

Krystal

Krystal and Dr. Bishop met and worked together at UNC School of Dentistry while obtaining their degrees. Working together after graduation was high on their wish-lists and they have worked side-by-side since 2000. Krystal, and her husband, Stephen, live in Granville County, with their children Cameron and Karleigh. Krystal likes to vacation at the beach and spend time with her family.

Laurie

Laurie has over 30 years of experience in the dental field. She keeps the office running smoothly as our office manager and is an expert in navigating the maze that is dental insurance. She will answer all of your billing and scheduling questions with a smile. Laurie and her husband, Philip and their daughter Courtney enjoy vacationing at Myrtle Beach with their two Dachshunds, Bailey Boy and Oliver.

Sandra

Sandra has been in the field of dentistry for four decades. When she is not helping patients feel comfortable and calm while assisting with their dental care, Sandra enjoys being involved in her church. She also loves to spend time with her family and traveling to new places. She likes to frequent the NC coast and mountains to see her loved ones.

Stacy

Stacy has over 30 years of experience in the dental industry. In addition to being a Registered Dental Hygienist, she also holds a Master’s Degree and is a former Adjunct Professor at the UNC School of Dentistry. Residing in Chapel Hill, she and her husband, Scott, are raising their 2 beautiful daughters. Stacy has a passion for health and wellness, loves to cook and go horseback riding. Stacy’s favorite place to be is their home in Oriental, NC where they enjoy boating and the quieter side of life.

Michaela

Michaela is a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill. She loves Carolina basketball, glitter (anything sparkly, really), talking, teeth, and her dog — Winston. Michaela married her husband, Taylor, in April 2023 and the two of them enjoying traveling as often as they can. When not traveling, they enjoy attending football games, spending time with their friends, and planning their next adventure!

Zoe

Zoe started with Dr. Bishop in March 2026. For the past five years, she has worked in Veterinary Medicine as a Veterinary Assistant. While she loved caring for animals, she was ready for a new challenge and is thrilled to begin her journey in dentistry! Although Zoe is new to dentistry, you may recognize her from the photos around the office as she’s been “hanging out” in this practice for quite some time! Zoe is Dr. Bishop’s step-daughter and she is honored to now work alongside Dr. Bishop and her incredible team!

Zoe and her boyfriend, James, have three cats together- Bo, Charlie, and Twig, who they love with their entire hearts! Outside of work Zoe enjoys reading, playing video games, watching reality TV, trying new restaurants, and spending time with friends and family.

Heather

Heather has worked in the dental field since 2012 in a variety of roles. She started her career as a dental assistant. She then managed an endodontic practice for 7 years before joining our team in 2025 working as our treatment plan coordinator. Heather has a passion for the dental field and loves working with people. When she is not working, she loves being outdoors, working out and spending time with her husband Jason and her two grown children, Paige and Owen. Heather is dedicated to changing lives one smile at a time.

Jessica

Jessica joined Dr. Bishop’s practice in August 2024, bringing 26+ years of experience as a Dental Assistant. She is passionate about providing compassionate, quality care and helping patients feel comfortable and welcomed throughout their dental experience. Jessica enjoys being part of a caring team and building positive relationships with patients.

Outside of the office, Jessica enjoys spending time with her husband, Nick, and their two children, Lexi and Carter. She loves gardening with her daughter, relaxing at the beach, traveling with family and friends, and cheering on her son’s baseball team. Her family also includes two dogs and a bearded dragon!

Donna

Donna has been a part of Dr. Bishop’s team since April 2024 and brings 34+ years of experience in the dental field. She truly enjoys getting to know her patients and believes that building relationships is one of the most rewarding parts of her career. Donna is passionate about making sure every patient leaves with a smile. Outside of the office, Donna is a proud mom of three amazing children- Jared, Amber, and Trey.

Shirley Mae Funk

Shirley Mae Funk is the office canine. Shirley is likely the favorite staff member of most patients. She is a sweet Shih Tzu that mostly sleeps all day. When requested, Shirley will snuggle in the lap of a patient who wants the company of something soft and cuddly. Otherwise, Shirley can be found napping by Laurie’s feet or begging for treats from the sweet patients who spoil her rotten.
